Confirmed experience in Clinical Hematology
Dr. Carlos Besses Raebel obtained a degree in Medicine in 1978, studying the Hematology Residency at the Red Cross Hospital in Barcelona, obtaining the title of specialist in 1982.
Until 1986 he worked as an Assistant at this Hospital and from 1986 to 1997 as Head of the Hematology Service at Hospital La Alianza in Barcelona. Subsequently, his professional work has been developed from 1997 to 2002 as Head of the Hematology Section at Hospital del Mar and from 2002 to June 2019 as Head of the Hematology Service of said Hospital.
In 1999 he obtained the degree of Doctor of Medicine and has been Associate Professor of Medicine at the Autonomous University of Barcelona from 1999 to 2007. He has been founder and President of the Spanish Group of Myeloproliferative Neoplasms from 2011 to 2018 and member of the Scientific Working Group on Myeloproliferative Neoplasms of the European Hematology Association from 2014 to 2019.
Regarding research activity, he has been Director of the Applied Clinical Research Group in Hematology of the Cancer Program of the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park until 2019, obtaining various grants for research projects in myeloproliferative neoplasms and has been Director of several doctoral theses. He is a member of the Spanish Society of Hematology, the European Hematology Association, the American Society of Hematology and the European LeukemiaNet.
He has been the author and editor of the treatise on Clinical Hematology (Sans-Sabrafen, Besses, Vives Corrons, Elsevier, 2006, 5th edition) as well as different book chapters and has 192 publications in PubMed (the bibliographic database of the National Library of Medicine, USA), of which 107 are about myeloproliferative neoplasms. His scientific activity has been presented in numerous papers at National and International Conferences.
Currently, he works as a clinical hematologist in his professional office and is Senior Consultant of the Applied Clinical Research Group in Hematology of the Cancer Program of the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park
